Devil's Throat Cave
The Devil's Throat is located in the Western Rhodopes, 1.8 km north of the village of Trigrad and 17 km south of the town of Devin. This is one of the few caves that does not shine with exquisite formations. What attracts and enchants people is the opportunity to touch a real element, a particle of the mysterious and scary underworld. The entrance of the cave, resembling a devil's head, in the throat of which pours a huge roaring waterfall, from ancient times nourishes the human imagination and gives rise to many legends.
The most popular legend is that it was through the Devil's Throat that Orpheus descended into the underworld of Hades in search of his beloved Eurydice.
An interesting fact is that nothing released into the waters of the Devil's Throat comes out of the cave exit. Numerous experiments have been made with logs and various other objects, which sink without a trace into the underground river and further inflame curiosity and imagination.
